The Stories That Make Us

The Stories That Make Us

Where do folktales come from and what kind of stories can be considered as one? In 200 years' time, will future generations be hearing the same legends and tales that we hear today? Dive into over 70 reimagined Singaporean folktales written and illustrated by Singaporean children, aged 3 - 12 years old from local art studio, Art Wonderland. Accompanied by mini activities and a DIY paper theatre set found within the book, embark on a journey through these colourful tales inspired by Singapore's original stories!

The Project behind The Stories That Make Us

4 week project & children art exhibition & a published book

Over 70 children from our children art studio, Art Wonderland, were invited to dive into the world of folktales whilst being inspired to spin narratives that reflect their understanding of good and evil. Who will their heroes be and what will evil look like? What kind of actions demonstrate honesty and kindness, and what distinguishes good and bad?

By examining the relationship between traditional tales and present-day narratives - The Stories That Make Us offers a glimpse into how these stories have influenced our children, how they have shaped us and what we will carry forward.
